MAHANOY TOWNSHIP — A Fireworks show is back in Mahanoy Township after being on hiatus since 2009.
But Saturday’s show is all thanks to students at Mahanoy Area High School in Schuylkill County.
When the community’s fire company couldn’t pay for the booming show, the high school students stepped up and raised the money themselves. They raised money with events like dress down days during the school year and it all ended with hundreds of people coming out to see the show.
“I think it’s wonderful every other town has it but us anymore and it’s so nice to have it back again,” said Lisa Lecorchick from Mahanoy City.
After reaction to this year’s show, people in the community are already raising money to make next year’s Independence Day weekend even bigger!
“We’re hoping that we can give back a few dollars after what we sell to start up next year’s,” said Debroah Walker from Mahanoy City.
Folks in Mahanoy City are happy to have the fireworks back and everyone has their favorite part.
As people sat on the fields at Mahanoy City Area High School, they said events like this make them happy to call this Schuylkill County community home.
