SCOTT TOWNSHIP -- One person is dead after a wreck on Interstate 80 in Columbia County and part of the highway is shut down.

It happened around 1 p.m. Monday near the Lightstreet exit (236), near Bloomsburg. The westbound lanes are closed, according to PennDOT.

Three tractor trailers and several cars were involved in the crash, according to troopers.

The name of the person killed has not been released.

A detour is in place. Westbound traffic should take Exit 241, then Route 11 south through Bloomsburg to Route 42 north to I-80.

Crews at the scene said it make take several hours to clear the area.

Got to for updates.

We were in that traffic jam for over 5 hours. We didn’t see any signs until we were already in the traffic jam for over 2 hours. I wish they had a sign near I-81. We would have gone that route instead.

We travel that road and the trucks are not as safe as they use to be. They are in every lane which they are not suppose to be, cut you off and many speed. Sometimes when you try to pass (when safe), they speed up and don’t let you. They should all be watched more carefully and given tickets or pulled off the road

Came to a full stop at mm 254 around 8:30 pm. Resumed speed over 20 mph at Columbia CO rest stop [mm246] after 10pm. Would suggest when there’s a fatality, that the police car with the flashing lights facing traffic be parked before the last exit before the accident.
