TROY TOWNSHIP--Orange spray paint along Route 6 near Troy is a heartbreaking reminder that 18-year-old Daniel Wilber is gone.

Investigators say Wilber died after his motorcycle hit a car that had stopped and was waiting to turn.

Troopers say Wilber was wearing a helmet.

"He was so careful and I didn't think it would even be possible," Wilber's friend, Anthony Rutty said.

Friends never expected that Wilber would be gone so suddenly.

They say he got the motorcycle last week... a graduation gift from his father.

"It was amazing, he was happy he got the motorcycle for his graduation present. He put over almost 200 miles on it in three days, he was so happy about it," Rutty said.

Wilber was in the welding program at the Northern Tier Career Center.

He graduated June 13.

At least one of his friends who didn't know him for long says, Daniel made a long lasting impression when he was the new kid in town.

"He was one of the first people I talked to and being on the tech bus with him, I always talked to him at tech. He was always willing to help me," Paul Peters said.

Wilber's alma mater also had nothing but nice things to say about the teen.

In an email to Newswatch 16, the principal at Troy Senior High School wrote: "Daniel was a great kid that loved the outdoors, loved life and always had a smile on his face as he went through the day."

Wilber's close friends say it's tough losing a friend whose energy could keep a smile on anyone's face.

"You could be in your worst mood ever and you would be happy and hyper the next minute hanging out with him. He was just a great person. I love him lots and I will miss him dearly. You truly were my best friend, Daniel," Rebecca High said.

Grief counselors will be available on Wednesday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at Troy Senior High School.
