SCRANTON -- An electrical fire caused people to lose power Monday night.

Scranton police said a driver noticed the flames on power lines on the 800 block of South Keyser Avenue.

The road was closed while crews put out the fire.

PPL officials confirmed over 6,000 customers lost power. PPL hopes to have power restored to those customers by 11:30 p.m.

A spokesperson for PPL said it was equipment failure that led to the fire.
