EDWARDSVILLE -- Police say two bank robbers remain on the loose after a hold up this afternoon in Luzerne County.
It happened at Community Bank in Edwardsville around 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Edwardsville Police say the man and woman seen running in the surveillance pictures below are the people responsible for holding up Community Bank in the borough.
Investigators say the couple came out to the bank in the West Side Shopping Center on Wyoming Avenue and made off with more than $8,000.
People here say they have a good idea of what`s motivating these types of crimes.
“Well I think a lot of it has to do with drugs and if you`re going to be bold enough to rob a bank, I would take a lot more than $8,000, because they`re facing federal time,” said Mary Ermack.
Police say the couple walked into the bank around 3:00 p.m. and the woman gave a note to the teller.
“She gave her a note saying she wanted all the money, not to put any dye packs in, not to push any panic buttons or anything, she placed her purse onto the counter, she said she had a gun in there and she wouldn`t hesitate to use it,” said Officer Mike Lehman with Edwardsville Police. “At that time the teller did everything she possibly was trained to do correctly. She put everything in the bag, they fled the bank southbound towards med-express, over to the Price Chopper, they ran up into the woods behind Lowe`s.”
Police could be seen searching this wooded area behind Lowe`s on Plymouth Street, looking for the pair with a K-9 unit.
Police say they don`t know if the woman is actually armed since the teller did not see a gun.
Police say the woman is about 5`7” with brown hair and was wearing a blue shirt with dark pants.
The man is about 5`10” with brown hair and was wearing a white shirt and bright blue shorts.
People in the borough are confident they`ll be caught.
“Oh absolutely, absolutely soon, yup, somebody knows who they are,” said Ermack.
Police say if you recognize either or both of the people to contact Edwardsville Police or the FBI.
