SCRANTON -- Scranton police now say they have a man in custody accused of stabbing a teenager in Scranton.

Police say, Garfield Alexander was taken into custody after 11 a.m. Wednesday in Forty Fort.

A fight between a couple led to a Wednesday morning stabbing across the street from a Scranton school.

Authorities said a 17-year-old boy was stabbed when he stepped in to protect his mother from a man near South Scranton Intermediate on Slocum Avenue just before 3:30 a.m.

The victim was rushed to the hospital.  Police have not released the name or condition of the teenager.

It is sad that this poor boy not only got caught in the middle of this fight but also that he has such terrible inluences in his life. Should have been the drug dealing scum bag of a “mom” (not that she deserves that title!) that got stabbed!

  • The impact fee should be distributed to adjoining or other nearby affected counties. The vehicles that provide chemicals, sand and supplies to the sites often are leaving from the rail yard in Scranton or Taylor. The roads here are negatively affected by

Slocum Avenue is adjacent to South Intermediate.

  • I won't be stopping in Scranton when passing by !

Wow Scranton has not been to safe lately ! The Poor Cab Driver and Dreadlock Murderer, this ! Remind me to never stop in Scranton when passing by ! Sounds like the SLIME have ruined your once nice city !

Is it just me, or was the headline misleading? Did it honestly matter that these people lived near a school? How about “Teen stabbed while protecting mother”? That’s what actually happened, after all.

Slocum Avenue would be West Scranton Intermediate School not South Scranton. So which is it? The wrong school name or street name?

I don’t know these people, but maybe just maybe the 17 year old boy was out there because he heard the loud, violent argument that his mother was involved in and he wanted to try to protect her!! Which would make him a kid who stepped up like a man,and not some punk…why his mother and this man (I’d guess her boyfriend?) were arguing like that at this time of morning is anyone’s guess, but to compare this kid to the 16 year old thug who shot a cabbie or insinuate that he’s a punk is wrong..
