OLYPHANT -- Dozens of people went to a fundraiser in Lackawanna County to help a woman who needs a kidney.

"A Kidney for Caroline" was held at Thirst T's Bar and Grill in Olyphant on Sunday.

Caroline Azzarelli, 23, of Dunmore had one kidney removed when she was six, so her lone kidney has been doing the work of two for years.

Caroline was diagnosed with stage three kidney disease when she was 18 and now she needs to start dialysis.

The money raised from the benefit is expected to help with medical expenses, and Caroline was in disbelief about how many people showed up to support her.

"I've cried a couple times already today. It's very overwhelming that I have so much love and support not only from my friends and family and coworkers, but their friends and family and strangers that I don't even know," said Caroline.

Donations can be made at any Fidelity Bank to "A Kidney for Caroline."
