HANOVER TOWNSHIP — Police are investigating a death that occurred at an early morning traffic stop in Luzerne County.
The incident took place at the intersection of Carey Avenue and Division Street in Hanover Township.
According to authorities, two Wilkes-Barre police officers pulled over a minivan in a CVS parking lot around 1:30 Friday morning. So far, they have not said why they pulled the vehicle over. Soon after the traffic stop, the driver took his own life.
The Luzerne County coroner told Newswatch 16 that they are still in the early stages of the investigation, but it appears the driver of the minivan died from one self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The name of the driver has not yet been released.
