TOBYHANNA TOWNSHIP -- Runners hit the road in Monroe County on Sunday to raise money for an organization that helps others in times of need.

The Run for the Red Marathon benefited the Red Cross.  The organization is mostly volunteer and helps victims of natural disasters and fires.

Folks lined up at the starting line at Pocono Mountain West High School early Sunday morning. Organizers said about 1400 runners took part in the marathon.  There was also a 5k run in Stroudsburg.

"The cause is awesome. It's to help the community. That's what we're here for to help each other and running brings that to the community," said Lorie Rehrig, of Kunkletown.

All the money raised during the marathon and 5k goes to the American Red Cross of the Poconos.
