SCRANTON -- It took a lot of candles to celebrate a special birthday in Lackawanna County.

About 50 family members were by Mildred Murphy's side as she marked her 100th birthday at the Radisson in Scranton on Sunday.

The woman from Dunmore was born in 1914, the same year Charlie Chaplin debuted in the movies and Babe Ruth in the majors!

Mildred was married for more than 60 years, has two children, four grandchildren and 10 great grand kids.

As for the secret to a long life, Murphy said it's a mystery to her as well.

"I have no idea, it's a big secret to me too, I have a good appetite, not too good at sleeping, better at eating," said Murphy.

She said she keeps busy by knitting and crocheting.  She even received a birthday wish from President Obama.  Murphy has voted in every presidential election since first casting a ballot for Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1936.
