HANOVER TOWNSHIP -- Fire departments in the area got some new, lifesaving equipment on Saturday, and it's thanks to a teenage boy.

Jakub Mims, 13,  of Hanover Township raised hundreds of dollars to buy oxygen masks for fire departments to use on cats and dogs that are rescued from fires.

He surpassed his goal of $1500 by selling lollipops and turning to the internet for donations.

On Saturday Mims gave the masks to firefighters at Breslau Firehall near his home. The equipment will be distributed to departments in six counties.

The masks have been used to to save animals' lives in the past, and Mims decided to raise money for the cause when he learned that many local fire departments lack the special oxygen masks.
