TANNERSVILLE -- A multi-million dollar project is being planned in the Poconos for a property just off Interstate 80.

The project would demolish an old honeymoon resort that's been closed for about a dozen years.

Empty buildings still remain around a beautiful lake, the remains of Summit Resort.

The couples and honeymoon escape just off Interstate 80 in Tannersville closed in 2002.

It's something the Farda family struggled with.

"It was my father's dream in the 60s to be involved with the honeymoons, couples' business, and he broke ground in 1967 to build the Summit," said Tony Farda.

But now just off the interstate are signs of new life for this resort. Tony Farda is teaming up with a developer from the Philadelphia area.

"People who live here can come and have good retail to shop, great restaurants, a movie theater," said James DePetrus of Legend Properties.

"I think it's great, it will be more opportunity for the kids to go out and have fun, we need more stuff to do around here," said Lauren James of Reeders.

People looking to visit the new Tannersville Entertainment Village would come right off of Interstate 80, but some folks think this part of Tannersville is already congested enough.

"It's not a very good location because of all the traffic. On the weekends we don't even go near there because of the Crossings," said Andy McLean of Reeders.

The Crossings Premium Outlets sit just across the interstate from where this project is expected to break ground in about a year, worrying some like Andy and Marge McLean of Reeders. But they agree it's good that the property, where their grandson used to work, may finally be used again.

"It was a nice resort for the time. At that time it was nice. It's been empty for a long time though," said Marge McLean.

The Farda family says the location is key to making this project work.

"We think this is going to be a home run," said Farda.

When Tannerville Entertainment Village will be completed, and what stores will come, is still to be determined.
