CHESTNUTHILL TOWNSHIP — There was a special arrival Wednesday at fire and ambulance companies in the Poconos.

Teddy bears and stuffed animals were dropped off at the West End Ambulance Company in Effort.

The Masonic Lodge in Stroudsburg teamed up with fraternities at East Stroudsburg University to collect plush toys last month.

First responders will be able to give them to children during emergencies.

“There’s a lot of kids that might not have some good experiences, whether their house burned down or something and this is an opportunity for them to have something to sleep with at night and give them a little bit of comfort,” said Brian Massie with Masonic Lodge J. Simpson Africa #628.

About 500 teddy bears and plush animals were collected this year.

Organizers hope to hold this drive again in the fall.
