Officials: Broken Sprinkler Pipe Forces Evacuation at Nursing Facility

HARVEYS LAKE — Dozens of people were forced out of a nursing center Sunday night in Luzerne County.

Around 7:45 p.m., ambulances and other vehicles started making several trips evacuating people from Lakeside Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Harveys Lake.

Officials said a sprinkler pipe broke in the boiler room, flooding the place with several inches of water.

Emergency crews tell Newswatch 16 that roughly 30 people were taken from the home and are staying at other facilities affiliated with Lakeside Nursing Home.

Officials have not said when the residents will be allowed to return to their homes.
