SCRANTON -- Inside Saint Peter's Cathedral families celebrated mass together. Parents, children, and especially on this special day, mothers.
"We think about the ways our mothers have made extraordinary sacrifices in order that you and I might be able to recognize and understand that we're truly loved," said Monsignor Joseph Kelly.
The monsignor's message resonated with so many here. They thought of their mothers; some here, some gone, and some who wanted to be a mother so badly, they adopted.
"It was the best day of our life," said Theresa Kane.
Kane, of Jessup, adopted her son Patrick nearly 43 years ago from Saint Joseph's Hospital. Today, he has a family of his own, and has come to know how special the adoption process can be for mother and child.
"I'm so thrilled because I found my mom, mom is not by blood. Mom is by actions. She's given me a wonderful life," said Patrick Kane
After the mass was over, little Addison Trently smiled for pictures with her mother on this holiday. The photos will be a reminder of how adoption brought the two together.
"Her birth mother loved her so much that she let her go, but also that our prayers were answered in that she came to us," said Lynn Fuchylo.
Fuchylo already had a son. Then, she adopted a little girl. Either way, a mother's love is the same. All they do in return, to her, is a blessing.
"Nothing can put into words I think the love and support that everyone feels as a family between friends and family, just a great day," said Fuchylo.
