WAYNE TOWNSHIP-- State police are investigating reports of a collision Friday night near Schuylkill Haven that left a local man in the hospital.

According to investigators, Lonnie Fergusoen, 47, tried to outrun traffic by dashing across Route 183 near the Blue Ridge Hotel, a well-known local tavern.

Witnesses report that they saw an S.U.V heading north, then heard a thump, but they didn't see the actual collision.

Dave Peiffer lives around the corner and said, "(They) should be man enough or woman enough to stop and find out if he was hurt."

While the speed limit in the area is 55 mph, neighbors said many drivers go a lot faster.

Peiffer added, "There are kids around here, people go up and down, they fly!"
