SOUTH CENTRE TWP. -- Some students in Columbia County performed a musical documentary at Central Columbia Middle School about the American dream.

The documentary was put together by a social studies teacher and other teachers helped with the musical portion.

The students from both the middle and high schools portrayed several pivotal moments in history, from World War II and the Holocaust, to the civil rights movement.

Several different figures were brought to life through acting and music. It was all to help people understand what it means to be an immigrant pursuing the American dream.

"My grandmother came here from Hungary and she came for a better life for everyone, I think it's great they were able to do that," said Cassie Rumbough, a high school junior.

"What I'm trying to do is make the kids believe in themselves that they can do something far beyond what they normally would be asked to do, and you are hearing it," said Jim Fiedler, the social studies teacher.

Newswatch 16's Sofia Ojeda also took the time to share her family's story of immigration to the United States from Peru with all of the children.

This is the 10th year for this performance at Central Columbia Middle School.
