LUZERNE COUNTY -- Seth Gollhardt is a man on a mission.

The man from Lehman Township started a bike trip last week in New Jersey.

He is hoping to make it across the nation to Oregon by the end of August, all to raise $100,000 for St. Jude Children's Hospital for children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

"They provided medical care for children with cancer for no charge and they even put up the families for children all across the country," said Gollhardt.

Gollhardt owns nine Domino's Pizza locations in Luzerne and Lackawanna counties. Newswatch 16 spoke to him last month as he was preparing for this trip.

He decided on the bike ride to raise money for Domino's St. Jude's fundraising campaign.

While biking through his hometown area, Gollhardt stopped at his Domino's businesses, including one in Dallas.

There, workers were whipping up pizzas. Part of the proceeds from the pies Thursday night go to St. Jude's.

"I just talked to him, I think he's riding 4,200 miles," said Chris Phillips of Dallas who was picking up a pizza with his two young sons.

"It's amazing, he must be in pretty good shape, very dedicated to the cause," said Bonnie Lauer of Shavertown who said she came to buy a pizza because of the fundraiser.

Gollhardt's employees called him an inspiration.

"I think that this is outstanding, I think that this is admirable, I would love to do it. It's such a great cause. Amazing," said Dallas Domino's manager Christine Bynon.

Gollhardt had a friend, John Fisher, join him for the last part of his ride through Luzerne County's Back Mountain.

"It's a very brave thing to go out 4,300 miles by himself. That's not an easy accomplishment on unfamiliar terrain," said Fisher.

Gollhardt has already biked about 400 miles and has at least 3,000 more to go before he reaches his goal.

He plans to rest for two days at home before getting back on his bike.

"I've been heading mostly north so I'm going to start heading out 118 and start heading toward Oregon. "'
