Churchill Downs may be 670 miles away from Pocono Downs, but that didn't stop hundreds of people from gathering at the horse track in Luzerne County, to celebrate the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby. People from all over our region, came to place their bets on their favorites.

Some people bet based on the horses actual talent and recent win history, but most people we found, were betting on a horse because they liked its name or because they liked its post position.

Picking a horse is only part of the fun on this first Saturday in May, sometimes the fashion can be more memorable to spectators, than the race itself. Dozens of ladies entered the Derby Day Annual Hat Review, hoping to be awarded a prize for their creative and colorful hats. Most of the women were obeying the golden derby hat rule, of "Go big, or go home!"

Whether you are here for the horses, or the hats, or the hair raising excitement, the Kentucky Derby is a timeless tradition that continues to draw out droves of fans, who are eager to enjoy the track-side spectacle at Pocono Downs, each year.
