The Palmerton boy's 4 x 100 relay team works on hand-offs. All the training resulting in first place finishes at the Jim Thorpe and Zephyr Invitationals. The Blue Bombers big piece is senior Austin Shupp the school's record holder in the 110 high and 300 hurdles.

"We did really well this year. Coming into the season we we're ranked really low in the colonial leagues, so it feels good to like beat the rankings and kind of climb to the top," said Austin Shupp.

"It's not really one area or another. It seems like we're getting contributions up and down the lineup, and we're strong in a lot of events-so that's really sort of played out in the standing so far," said Jeff Minnich.

The strength of this Palmerton team obviously on the track, but Coach Minnich getting help in the field events. At the Allen Invitational last Friday night senior Jarred Sacks breaking a 39-year-old record in the triple jump clearing 46 feet 2 inches.

"It was a really great day. The wind was in my favor, it was a great pit really good competition, and I just had to go for it. We have a really strong team. It's great to see everyone's doing really good-everyone's winning. Austin is doing his 110 hurdles-his 300 hurdles, Gerald's running the 100, 4x100, 200. It's really awesome to have such great talent around. We're all doing really good," said Jarred Sacks.

That 4x100 team is anchored by junior Gerald Pereira. Times around 44.5 seconds keep them competitive and moving pieces around due to injuries has slowed progress.

"It's been different. You have to change-up your steps when somebody gets hurt, but you just got to work thru it and work hard and now we're back up top," said Gerald Pereira.

A few league meets remain for this team then the District Championships at East Stroudsburg South where a small Carbon County school hopes to finish strong.
