Magnificent horses, mint juleps, and marvelous hats will all collide at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs on the first Saturday of May, to celebrate the running of the Kentucky Derby. Women of all ages gather at the track in Luzerne County to show off their hats, sport their Southern inspired attire, and sip on the traditional drink of the Run for the Roses. Every year, on Derby Day, there is a "Hat Review," in which hundreds of women enter their hat creation to win a cash prize. We've seen colorful hats, whimsical ones, elaborate, elegant, and extravagant head wear, over the past few years.

The track's Racing Marketing Manager, Jennifer Starr, knows a thing or two about stylish hats. She creates her own, and makes one-of-a-kind hats for her friends. Using whatever materials she can find, Jenn will transform an old hat, into a new Derby masterpiece. This year, she even made me a Derby hat! When making the perfect hat, Jenn doesn't hesitate to let her imagination go wild! She adds feather, flowers, tulle, ribbons, pearls, lace, and even horse figurines, to create the perfect hat. Jenn's only rule for Derby hats: the bigger, the better!
