DYBERRY TOWNSHIP -- The chilly weather didn't keep folks away from an annual canoe race in Wayne County.

About 50 boats were launched near Honesdale for the Jaycees Canoe Classic. The race is one of the biggest fundraisers for the Honesdale Area Jaycees which helps support programs that give back to the community.

Honesdale Jaycee Dave Sporer said, "For us it's a rite of passage for spring, for us this is the start of the spring season, after this the weather's going to get warm and we'll have beautiful weather the rest of the summer."

The 7 mile race started at the Wayne County Fairgrounds and finished in White Mills. It's the 28th year for the canoe competition.
