PITTSTON — Police in Pittston are searching for the driver who crashed into a hotel room at the Knights Inn on Route 315.

It all began around 1 a.m. Thursday.

Authorities said the driver of a Mustang led police on a half mile chase on Route 315.

The police chief said an officer saw the man speeding after getting off Interstate 81.

When the cop tried to pull the Mustang over, the driver wouldn’t stop and tried to lose the police cruiser.

The officer eventually found the car, after the driver crash into a hotel room and fled.

The owner at the Knight’s Inn said the driver hit a tree and barely missed two parked cars before slamming into Room 201 and waking up the couple from Oklahoma.

“I was asleep, I thought an earthquake hit me. I started screaming and realized there`s a car in my room,” said Jeanne Milton. Milton and her husband were in bed when the Mustang crashed through the window.

“I just sat there petrified trying to figure out how to move, there`s glass all over the place, in the bed and everything,” said Milton.

The manager of the Knights Inn said there were about 70 people at the hotel at the time of the crash. No one was hurt.

Milton sums up the whole experience in one word: lucky.

The Knight’s Inn is still open.

The owner said he has already filed an insurance claim for the damage and plans to reopen the room in two weeks.

Police are still searching for the driver and said the male is not the owner of the car.
