In Snyder County, members of one church observed good Friday by taking part in a 30 mile cross walk.

These men were hard to miss as they carried a large wooden cross on their backs along Route 522 near Kreamer. They are from Christ Church of Beaver Springs, and participated in a 30 mile cross walk from Northumberland to Beaver Springs. The walk re-enacts the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

"Give them a physical reminder of the fact that he was a real person. I mean, he walked a real wooden cross, and he was put on a cross with real nails, it was real blood and he offers real forgiveness," Mike Sellers said.

This is the second time members of Christ Church of Beaver Springs are doing a cross walk on Good Friday. Around 30 men took turns carrying the cross for up to one mile at a time.

"It's really not about identifying with the suffering at all, it's more about a symbol to represent that it was a real event," Sellers said.

Church members say carrying the 100 pound cross was gratifying. Along the way, people stopped to watch...like Shirley Swope of Middleburg. Church members gave her and her daughter bibles.

"I just don't know what to say. I'm overwhelmed," Swope said.

"It's overpowering that he did all that he did for us," Carol Kepner said.

"People honking and waving, giving the thumbs up, coming out and taking pictures," Derik Dressler said.

After the 30-mile walk through Northumberland and Snyder Counties, everyone ended up at Christ Church of Beaver Springs for a special Good Friday service.
