DRUMS --- One of the area’s landmark restaurants was destroyed by fire in Luzerne County one month ago.

Helen and Kevin McDonald lost their restaurant, Damenti’s and their home on the upstairs floor.

Friday night, friends and longtime customers are helping the McDonald get back on their feet with a pasta benefit at the Sand Springs Country Club in Drums.

The McDonalds talked with their friends and customers, both said they'd like to get back in the restaurant business.

"We're trying to come up to speed and deal with what we have to deal with, and the name Damenti's is not extinct," said Damenti's owner Kevin McDonald.

When and if Damenti's re-opens remains a question, but people here hope to see Helen greet customers like family once again.

"The support of this community, it’s just like having angel’s wings wrapped around you. It’s just overwhelming," said Damenti's owner Helen McDonald.
