LEHIGH TOWNSHIP -- State police are investigating the death of a hiker Monday afternoon in Carbon County.

It happened around 12:30 p.m. near the Glen Onoko Falls on state game lands, near Lehigh Gorge State Park, outside Jim Thorpe.

The victim is Jesse Crossley, 20, of Catasauqua, according to state police.

Troopers said Crossley fell from an unmarked trail on state game lands. They said he was with friends but was not properly dressed for the area where they were hiking.

Emergency crews said these type of accidents happen all too often.

"We're up here nearly every weekend. If we're not in the Glen falls, per se, we might be up along the Lehigh Gorge Trail. We might be in the river because people swim up here, jump off the bridge. It's all posted telling you how dangerous, treacherous, it is, to wear the proper footwear," said Jim Thorpe Fire Department Deputy Chief Vince Yaich.

State police advise people to use marked trails and to have proper hiking equipment and clothing.
