CARBON COUNTY -- After a long winter, it's finally time to put away the skis.

Blue Mountain Ski Area and Resort in Carbon County wrapped up its longest ski season ever with some summer-like weather on Sunday.

"This is what they call West Coast experience. It's not often you get to ski in the 70s or maybe we'll hit 80. It's unique, it's kind of weird," said Jim Daily, general manager of Blue Mountain Resort.

Many people traded in jackets and snow pants for something a little lighter.

"It's super great. This is actually the first time I've ridden in shorts and it's super awesome," said Maxwell Brennan from Mertztown.

"I try to ski at least once in a dress because there's nothing like it. Everyone should try it at least once, said Susan Asmann from Lehighton.

So exactly what is it like to ski down a mountain in a sundress?

"It's very refreshing. You get a lot of updraft and a little bit of nice cool snow and it cool things down. It's fun, a lot of fun," explained Asmann.

Now while you may not go as fast in the melting snow, it does make it easier if you wipe out.

Overall, many skiers say they were just happy to get one last ride, sunshine and all.

"For PA, you can't beat it. It's the best," said Asmann.

Blue Mountain will reopen on May 10 to kick off the summer season activities.
