SCRANTON -- The Northeast Pennsylvania Heart Walk took place Saturday to help raise funds for the fight against heart disease and strokes.

Amanda Evans' daughter, Vayda, needed open heart surgery when she was born. She brought Vayda to the walk on Saturday. Evans said the American Heart Association was vital in helping them through the process.

"Now we're just trying to give back and promote people about a heart awareness," said Amanda Evans, "Birth defects happen with babies and congenital heart disease is out there and we just want to spread awareness and be able to help any family going through what we did ."

Before the walk, Folks learned how to do CPR to the beat of "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees.

The walk around the park helped raise money for the American Heart Association.
