LARKSVILLE -- Destiny Fuller of Larksville is giving the Easter Bunny an extra hand this year.
The 13 year old may only be a seventh grade student at Wyoming Valley West Middle School, but she’s not too young to understand that helping people out can go a long way.
“She’s always helping people and that’s just her nature and she loves it,” Fuller’s mother Jackie Kaskey said.
This year for Easter, Destiny decided she wants to make Easter baskets for local shelters, helping families who might not be able to afford a basket full of goodies.
“I feel really bad because I know I can get that stuff for Easter and they can’t,” Fuller said.
Destiny and her mom are already hard at work filling up plastic eggs, baskets full of chocolate and some other sweets.
But the two don’t want to stop after making a handful of baskets. They have a goal of making 100 baskets. They just need a little help from the community.
“We definitely need baskets and fake grass to put in the baskets. (Also) any Easter candy or candy that can be able to put into all age ranges,” Fuller said.
Some of the Easter baskets that Destiny makes will go to the Catherine McAuley House in Luzerne County, an organization that is well known for helping people that are in need.
“The children giving is just the most heartwarming thing you’d ever do. It wins everyone’s attention and it’s so, so meaningful,” Sr. Kathleen Smith, assistant director of the Catherine McAuley Center said.
Sr. Kathleen says the need to help families is growing every year.
“More and more people are in need of help and people that maybe never experience homelessness before or near homelessness,” Smith said.
A few days before Easter, the Catherine McAuley Center hosts a day full of fun for women and their children at the Scranton office.
Kids get the chance to enjoy Easter traditions that they might not get to experience on their own.
Destiny says she’s excited to help out.
“My goal is to help as many children as I can, get Easter baskets,” Fuller said.
“It just takes a little bit of somebody’s time and maybe a dollar just to go get a piece of candy and you know whatever just to make these children happy,” Kaskey said.
