SCRANTON -- Scranton Police thought a bizarre string of thefts in the city had stopped. But, two more Honda owners had all four tires swiped from their cars this weekend.

Now there is surveillance footage showing how the thieves get it done.

Scranton Police are still investigating the tire thefts from back in February when some or all of the tires were stolen from eight cars, all Hondas or Toyotas.

Then, the same thing happened to two more cars this weekend. But now police have a better look at the thieves themselves and how they steal the tires from the cars.

At first, Derek Raines said he didn't believe his wife when she told him a car outside their home on Monroe Avenue in Scranton was missing its tires.

"We heard of it happening in the hill section but not this close to home," Raines said.

Then Raines had to look at his home security system to see how it all happened.

In the early morning hours on Monday, underneath a street light, the video shows three men taking about six minutes to remove all four tires from Raines' neighbors' Honda Fit. Then they carried or rolled the tires away out of the camera's view.

"They were very methodical, they had very obviously done this before. And they were quick in and out," Raines added.

Scranton Police believe these same three men have done this before.

They have reports of tires stolen from nine other vehicles, either Hondas or Toyotas, all over the city.

It happened most recently on Monroe Avenue and to another Honda Fit on the 2100 block of Luzerne Street in west Scranton.

In other thefts back in February, the crooks left behind scissor jacks to prop up the cars.

But over on Monroe Avenue, they improvised. Instead propping up the Honda Fit with bricks they removed from the planter outside Anne Gilgallon's home.

""I couldn't believe it, I couldn't believe it. And then I was upset because they took my planter, the stones from my planter. But Derek has the cameras so I know he would have video," Gilgallon said.

Gilgallon and her neighbors hope the video is what will ultimately help police to catch the tire thieves.

Scranton Police said the tire thefts have not been specific to a neighborhood in Scranton. They started in south Scranton, then the Hill Section, and now in west Scranton.

They have been specific to a type of car, only Hondas or Toyotas.
