SCRANTON – Volunteers planted more than 1,000 pinwheels on the lawn of Courthouse Square in Scranton Sunday afternoon.

Each of the 1,411 pinwheels represented a child or adolescent that has been helped by the Child Advocacy Center of Northeastern Pennsylvania in the past year.

“Awareness breeds prevention. The more aware we are of a problem, the better able we are to try to prevent it. And it’s a multi-faceted display, if a child that was helped by the Child Advocacy Center sees the display they realize I’m not the only one,” said Jennifer Leach of the Child Advocacy Center.

Sunday’s event helped kick off a month-long Blue Ribbon Campaign.

April is national Child Abuse Prevention Month.
