SUV Slams Into Pole, Knocks Out Power to Hundreds

GLENBURN TOWNSHIP — Power went out to hundreds late Wednesday night in Lackawanna County as the temperatures dipped into the teens.

It happened because of a crash on Ackerly Road near Waverly just before midnight.

Authorities said an SUV slammed into a utility pole just before midnight, knocking out power to about 1,300 homes and businesses.  Police said the driver ran away.

PPL hopes to have the power back on to everyone 8 a.m. Thursday morning.

Anyone with information on the driver is asked to call Waverly Police.

Amazing how Michael’s comments got 25 dislikes to 2 likes. DUI in NEPA is way too acceptable; a bad reflection on the area. I wonder if they caught the driver. As Michael said, they will catch the driver of this Porsche. Someone’s not a happy camper for sure with so much damage and a leaving the scene charge will only rub salt into the wound.

Don’t you just hate when those power line poles jump out in front of you? It scares you so bad that you have to run away, lest the power pole beats you up for hitting a it.

Obviously drunk or driving without a license, so when the cops do find the driver (and they will), I hope the courts give the maximum penalty allowed by law including jail time. The courts need to raise the penalty for DUI crimes to show that it really won’t be tolerated.
