WILKES-BARRE -- The JCC in Wilkes-Barre held its Purim Carnival on Sunday, even though the actual holiday was on March 15 and March 16.
The celebration was held this weekend because schools were on spring break during the actual holiday.
Kids wore costumes, and there was food, music, and a whole room full of games at the "Purim in Candyland Carnival."
Purim celebrates a time when Jewish people living in Persia were saved from a royal adviser who wanted to kill them.
Traditionally, kids dressed up as characters from history for Purim, but these days they can wear what ever they want.
But one thing stays the same through the years, the hamentashen, which is a triangle-shaped treat traditionally filled with poppy seeds or prunes.
