ELDRED TOWNSHIP -- As state police continue to investigate a shooting that left two dead, people who know the alleged shooter speak out.

We're learning more about what happened Wednesday night when troopers say a man opened fire in a neighbor's home near Kunkletown.

Police say Garry Flyte shot and killed a father and son Wednesday night inside a mobile home.

Neighbors say the shooter lived right here next door. Now neighbors and family members of the alleged shooter say they're sorry any of this happened.

It was just before 7 p.m. Wednesday on Meixell Valley Road in Eldred Township when state police say a man shot and killed two of his neighbors.

Neighbors tell Newswatch 16 the victims Jeffrey Place, 54, and Steven Powell, 30, were father and son.

Police believe Garry Flyte was the shooter.

Flyte's daughter in law and grandchildren live around the corner.

"Sadly, I have to carry on his last name, but I don't know. He was a sick person. He was sick," said the suspect's granddaughter Melanie Flyte.

Troopers say Flyte went to his neighbors' home and shot the two men and a dog.  He then returned to his own home, came back to the scene, and called 911.

Flyte told police he was the shooter.

The older man was dead at the scene. The son died later at Pocono Medical Center.

Flyte's family members believe the alleged shooter was using methamphetamines.

They say they used to be close with the victims as well.

"I want them to know that we're sorry. And I've tried so many times by calling the police, by saying find out what's going on up there. We knew there's drugs. We knew they were being threatened. I was being threatened, and they just never listened," said the suspect's daughter-in-law Christina Flyte

We talked with state police about the family's claims. Troopers tell us they responded to all of the family's complaints but never found  evidence of  any crime.

Garry Flyte is locked up in Monroe County.
