ELDRED TOWNSHIP -- Two people are dead and one is in custody following a shooting Wednesday night in Monroe County, according to state police.

Troopers said Garry Flyte, 54, admitted to shooting Jeffery Place, 54, and Steven Powell, 30, at their home on Meixell Valley Road near Kunkletown.

Authorities said Flyte entered the home around 7 p.m. Wednesday and shot Powell, who ran away.  Troopers said Flyte then shot Place in the stomach as well as their dog.  Place and the dog reportedly died in the home.

State police said Flyte called 911 himself and told the responder what he did.

Powell was rushed to Pocono Medical Center where he died from the gunshot wound.

Relatives and neighbors of the accused shooter spoke with Newswatch 16 on Thursday.
