Before Vice President Joe Biden spoke at the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick of Greater Pittston Dinner at the Woodlands Resort, he has a very busy day, visiting parts of our area.

One of those visits was a surprise stop at Terry’s Diner in Moosic!

It was a hearty welcome home for Scranton`s native son as Vice President Joe Biden made a surprise visit here a Terry's Diner in Moosic.

This stop was one of many made by the vice president as he returned to Northeastern Pennsylvania, catching many diners here off guard.

“I was shocked, I was shocked,” said Tony Delvecchio of Dupont. “We came in and then I saw him sitting there, it was unbelievable, something that you won`t forget.”

“It was amazing, amazing, I thought, it was a lifetime experience,” said Susan Delvecchio of Dupont.  “And he spent so much time with the kids over there so i think it`s going to be a great memory for them.”

Nine-year old Carsyn Cole of Duryea was one of those lucky kids.”

“He asked me if I played any sports, where I went to school,” said Cole. “And I`ll never forget this.”

Terry`s owner says this is the first time Biden`s been to his diner and the VP made himself right at home.

“He came in and he stopped at every single table, shook hands and talked to everybody, made a big fuss over every kid that was in here, and there was a lot of kids coincidentally, took their names, their addresses, going to send their picture with him,” said Terry Holmes.

Of course Biden's visit called for a heavy police presence.

Interstate 81 was shut down intermittently as the vice president`s motorcade moved around the area, causing some traffic delays.

Security was especially tight for Biden's visit at the Woodland's, as every vehicle coming to the dinner was thoroughly checked.

That's why for those at Terry's Diner getting a chance to get up close and personal to the VP won't be something they'll soon forget.

“It was amazing, I couldn't have wished for anything better today,” said Carsyn Cole.

Terry’s owner says Vice President Biden took home two loaves of the diner’s Irish soda bread.
