SCRANTON -- Deliveries were made Monday to three food pantries after members of the Ancient Order of Hibernians collected items from Saturday's parade.

Scranton parade goers were asked to bring non-perishable food items to the St. Patrick's parade.

Members of the Ancient Order of Hiberians said they hope the food drive catches on and becomes bigger each year.

One of their members came up with the idea to turn their walk down the parade route into a food drive, according to a member of the order.

Volunteers told Newswatch 16 they collected enough items to split among three food pantries in the Scranton area including the pantry at St. Ann's Basilica in West Scranton.

Volunteers said their stock tends to run low in the early spring so every little bit helps.
