BUTLER TOWNSHIP -- The search is also on for the driver who hit a pedestrian in Schuylkill County and kept going.

The man survived and told Newswatch 16 what happened. He wonders why the driver didn't stop.

State Trooper Ed Sanchez visited the home of the hit and run victim near Girardville to see how Jesse Coolbaugh is doing and continue the investigation into the crash near Lost Creek.

"I am just glad I am alive. It could have been much worse," Coolbaugh said.

State police say Coolbaugh was walking along Route 54 before 8 p.m. Thursday when a vehicle came up from behind and hit him. He rolled off the hood to the pavement, and the driver kept going.

"He then walked about a quarter mile and knocked on the door and his family answered. He collapsed on the floor there," said Trooper Sanchez.

Coolbaugh was then rushed to a hospital for treatment.

"My face is all scratched and screwed up and I am swollen and my hand is fractured and I have 10 stitches in my right leg and screwed up my other leg," Coolbaugh said.

Coolbaugh and his family wish the driver would come forward.

"I am feeling the effects of yesterday now. I am in a lot of pain," he said.

"I just wish they'd come forward and admit they did it and take the consequences and they could have really hurt him," said the victim's brother Joshua. "He could have (been killed). I don't know what I'd do without him."

State police ask anyone with information about the hit and run that injured Jesse Coolbaugh to give them a call.
