MAHANOY TOWNSHIP — State police released details of a chase Wednesday night in Schuylkill County.

State troopers said they attempted to pull over a vehicle on Interstate 81 because the driver was a suspect in a retail theft that happened at the Fairlane Village Mall.

That’s when authorities said the vehicle took off. The chase went through several communities and finally ended up in Union Township when the driver missed a turn and rolled over on SR 339.

Investigators took Brian Shafer, 43, of Hazleton and his passenger into custody.

State Police said Shafer had several outstanding warrants for alleged thefts at the Schuylkill Mall.

Troopers say charges connected to the chase will also be filed.

This was so scary. Myself and a friend were on our way to hometown and had no idea this car was behind us we saw lights i said pull over and we saw another state trooper throw the strip before our car was even stopped and the suspects flew by us with a state trooper behind and then the 2nd trooper got into his car and flew after. we waited about 2-3min and then left to go to hometown when we saw the lights and heard the sirens and I said just pull over here and we didn’t even have the car all the way off the road when the suspects flew out from the side of the brown bag and was so close to us that we were screaming OMG, then the troopers followed them and we just sat there in shock I guess because if we would’ve waited even 30 second we would’ve been hit head-on.
