2009: Issue of Abortion Sparks Controversy

The annual St. Patrick's Parade in Scranton is on Saturday, and the excitement, like most years, is building.

However, back in 2009, that excitement was tempered by a controversy involving then Diocese of Scranton Bishop Joseph Martino.

Vice President Joe Biden was set to march in Scranton, but his stance on abortion upset the bishop.

    Abortion is murder and the Catholic church has stood strong on thus issue. It’s not a political issue, it’s one if morality. The Church should speak out against leaders who support abortion. The babies being slaughtered need a voice.
