SCRANTON -- A St. Patrick's celebration took place Sunday in Scranton to raise some money and celebrate the season.

The Little Sisters of the Poor were serving up a ham and cabbage dinner at the Holy Family Residence on Adams Avenue.

Staff and volunteer were ready to serve up to 1,000 and from the looks of things when we stopped by, that goal seemed within reach.

"Our residents were so enthusiastic about everything. They got their families enthusiastic. So many sponsors have shown up, volunteers, we have plenty of people volunteer to serve the meal," said Sr. Kathleen Murphy of Little Sisters of the Poor.

The Little Sisters of the Poor operate residences for the poor and elderly all over the world, but the money from Sunday's event will go to upgrade security at the doors of the residence in Scranton.
