EXETER -- The hallway bulletin boards and students’ shirts show the pride that Stephanie Jallen has brought to Wyoming Area High School.

Jallen medaled bronze in her first Paralympic skiing event in Russia early Monday morning.

Aaron Cater told Newswatch 16 that his girlfriend has not allowed a birth defect, which led to the amputation of Jallen’s leg, to slow her down.

“If there's anything you think she can't do, she'll show you that she can,” said Carter. "She's finally overcoming her lifetime goal of entering the Paralympics and showing everyone that she can do it.”

Tony Callaio said classmates have helped raise thousands of dollars to help Jallen pay for training and transportation.

"It does cost a lot of money to send her all over the world. She competed last year in New Zealand and Australia, so that was quite expensive,” said Callaio.

Jallen is expected to compete in three more events this week in Sochi, before she returns to Luzerne County on Monday.
