PLAINS TOWNSHIP -- Two people were taken to the hospital after a tractor-trailer went off of Interstate 81 in Luzerne County Thursday morning.

It happened around 9 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-81 in Plains Township.

Authorities said the big rig that was hauling vehicles went through the guide rail between the Wilkes-Barre (170B) and Pittston (175) exits.

The tractor-trailer landed about 30 yards from the nearest home.  Two people were hospitalized with unknown injuries.

The vehicles belonged to people who were having them transported from Florida.  It took crews hours to clean up the mess.

PennDOT said both lanes remain opened but traffic was slowed in that area.
