Bringing Hazleton Flag Debate to the State Level

HAZLETON — A group that’s been pushing to have the Dominican Republic flag flown at city hall in Hazleton is now taking their fight to the state level.

The Dominican House held a news conference Sunday at the group’s headquarters on Laurel Street in Hazleton.

The city’s mayor told members of the Dominican House they could not fly the country’s flag in celebration of Dominican independence, citing a state law.

Victor Perez said the law is more than 100 years old, and he plans to ask state lawmakers to modify it.

“It is better for the city to be open to everybody, not to be too close-minded,” said Victor Perez of the Dominican House.

Members of Casa Dominican said they’re very sorry to see the way people are reacting to the effort to have the Dominican Flag flown in Hazleton.

Vanessa doesn’t live in NEPA smfh you are so stupid your posts make no sense… If you don’t even live here …, WHY DO YOU CARE???? DRAMA QUEEN …STFU and GET A LIFE!!

Instead of worrying about flying that rag on government property, try learning and speaking English (especially out in public) nobody wants to hear your native jibber jabber…

That was my thought exactly, listening to him. He needs to concentrate on more important things that will help him live here, not on forcing his flag into our government.

The officials were nice enough to let them display their ugly flag inside, and this is the thanks they get from entitled ingrates. The only thing about the flag law that should change, is that anyone who challenges it, should PAY FOR ALL COURT COSTS, instead of putting the burden on taxpayers. You don’t like our flag laws, go live somewhere else and do us all a favor.

    Vanessa,
I agree with you 100% of everything people come here from all over because they want to make a better lives for themselves and people over in mexico and more they work for everything they have they dont have welfare and yes they may come over but more then 80% of them come over here to work and make a better life for themselves or for them and there family as well. If they arent bothering you leave them alone as well. White people are most disrespectful then any body. So Vanessa everything your saying i agree 100%

Everyone wants a good life, duhhh! Why can’t the rest of us do as we please anywhere we want to? Oh, that’s right, because soverneign nations have laws we have to obey and not disrespect.

So even in this economy with so many people out of work, we should step aside and give the jobs to them too?

    • C. Ronemus

Another hater of white people and the laws of this country? Perhaps the condition of Hazleton has been brought on by the influx of the people you try to defend for their lawlessness.

It is obvious that you and Vanessa are high school dropouts with little command of the English language. I would venture further to say that one or both of you are in a relationship with one of these squatters. Don’t do it. Go back to school. Get your GED. Read more classic literature. Its an embarrassment to the state and our educational system..

I hope they get this to pass. That way I can have Hazleton fly my freak flag when I’m feeling freaky.

So your going to tell me that America’s so star spangled awesome that we’re the only ones in the world who have freedom? Canada has freedom, Japan has freedom, the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Australia, Belgium has freedom. Two hundred seven sovereign states in the world, like 180 of them have freedom. Just in case you accidentally wander into a voting booth one day, there are some things you should know, and one of them is that there is absolutely no evidence to support the statement that we’re the greatest country in the world. We’re 7th in literacy, 27th in math, 22nd in science, 49th in life expectancy, 178th in infant mortality, 3rd in median household income, number 4 in labor force, and number 4 in exports. We lead the world in only 3 categories: number of incarcerated citizens per capita, number of adults who believe angels are real, and defense spending, where we spend more than the next 26 countries combined, 25 of whom are allies. The first step in solving any problem is recognizing there is one, America is not the greatest country in the world anymore.

Wow how ignorant of you Vanessa, you recall that little war called WWII well if not for this great country fighting to save the rest of the world, you’d be speaking German, or Japanese right now………and if the country has fallen since then you can that people like you…….

      • Vanessa

LMFAO! I live in NEPA though, your the one that wants to talk about feelings and opinions.. you STFU sitting behind your computer thinking your some tough guy.

    • CCKM

First of all, this is not a debate about who lives in the best country, many of us still think we do despite our current president. Secondly, the reason we actually might have so many incarcerated is because we actually do try and catch criinals wherein so many other countries they roam free, to emigrate here actually. Where I grew up was even more diverse than where you grew up, so big deal. We didn’t like this pompous posturing of other nations wanting to fly their flags on government buildings either and they never dared ask. Right now you’re the one dumbing yourself down by assuming we don’t know what we’re talking about when it’s you flapping your gums in ignorance. So, go live somewhere else if you don’t think America is so great. I hear the Dominican Republic has some extra room. Helping others to live with diversity doesn’t have anything to do with them posturing hostile takeovers.

You think? Apparently her and Melany or whatever her name is, think that just because they want something and see things a certain way, it should be so. This is our country, not the rest of the world’s.

    • ME

Good! Then less people should come here, yet they continue to burden us with their presence. I really don’t think most Americans care if we are the greatest or not, but like I said, people keep coming here. BTW, the statistics you cite aren’t bad overall. As for defense spending, since we still have the reputation we had as the greatest and since we continually bail out and give money to the inept people of the world, we have a need for more defense than some of the countries you mention. If we thought only of ourselves and let the losers of the world do the same, we’d be better off and maybe all these useless people wouldn’t come here so often, but fix their own countries instead of taking the easy way out.

    • Joe

1,343,812 ……Thats the only thing people need to remember when considering flying any flag other than our flag. 1,343,812 people lost their lives defending our beliefs our freedom, way of life and our flag. While you are correct we may not be number one in many areas as a country anymore we certainly are number one in what our families have sacraficed defending what we believe.

  • nikki

So can we go to dr and fly our flag. They are makin big deal out of this but they would feel the same of we wanted to fly our flag in dr. But whats funny when we go to their countrys most likely you have to learn how to speak their language but they come over here and arent forced to speak our language. When we talk to automative recording we have to press one for english thats bullshit. They tryin to take over our country. Now by all meams I am not racist but I am racist against the ones that come over and think they run everything. And the ones that come over illegally.

    • Vanessa

Who are you kidding? You wouldn’t learn any language you can barely speak or get your point across in English.

      • Janna

Vanessa you are a close minded idiot! Why should the DR flag be flown with ours???? I have not heard any legitimate reason WHY??? All I hear is you yapping about how America is not the best country..(why are you here?) but I will tell you WHY that flag should NOT have equal status … How many DR have died for our country???
