WILKES-BARRE -- A jury in Luzerne County found a woman guilty of child endangerment after deliberating for only 30 minutes.

Rebecca Butler was accused of endangering two children by bringing them to visit a convicted killer in prison.

The former nurse from the Danville area took the stand in her own defense on Wednesday. She admitted to sending Andre Vancliff topless photos of two girls in the jail, and allowing them to have inappropriate contact with him during prison visits at SCI Retreat.

Prosecutors says Butler put the priorities of a convicted killer ahead of the children, saying she allowed them to have inappropriate contact, that Butler gave Vancliff more than $10,000 over several years, and she allegedly allowed one of the girls to read the erotic adult book "50 Shades of Gray,” which the girl and inmate later talked about.

Prosecutors also say there are only one or two officers monitoring around 300 cameras at SCI Retreat.

An official with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections told Newswatch 16 that there is an investigation into the incident, and that child visitation policies were strengthened last year.
