SHENANDOAH -- Shenandoah Police said charges have been filed against a man and a woman for theft of electricity.

According to police, charges have been filed against Santos Torres and Christina Ponce for theft of services after an investigation led by Shenandoah Police and PPL Electric Utilities.

Authorities said the Shenandoah Police were contacted by a revenue recovery agent from PPL regarding the theft.

Police said the agent indicated that the meter at 402 West Oak Street had been tampered with to steal electricity since November of 2012.

According to officials, the value of electricity stolen and damage to the meter was more than $750.

Police said this is not the first time Torres has been charged by Shenandoah Police for stealing electricity. In August of 2013 Torres was charged in a similar incident in which nearly $4,000 worth of electricity had been stolen at another borough property.

Authorities said those felony charges were recently waived at a preliminary hearing and are awaiting disposition at the Schuylkill County courthouse.

To report a suspected theft to PPL, you can contact them through Facebook or call 1-800-342-5775.
