FAIRVIEW TOWNSHIP — Parents in Luzerne County raised money for an art program with a Mardi Gras celebration.
For the fifth year, parents from the St. Jude School organized an annual art auction.
This year’s event featured a New Orleans twist.
About 200 people showed up to bid on artwork.
The money raised goes towards the school’s “Artist in Residence Program,” where working artists teach at the school for a month.
“Next year we are hoping to have Chef Kate, who cooks at Mohegan Sun to come in and teach a culinary arts program, as well as a vocalist with the Penn Dickson Jazz Band to come next year,” said Marilyn Ayer, an art auction co-chair.
The artist in residence program cost about $2,000 a year.
