SCOTT TOWNSHIP -- Icy roads were making things tough for drivers Friday night. Black ice on the roads is causing crashes and keeping PennDOT busy.

A tractor trailer crashed on Route 347 in Scott Township around 9 p.m.

The driver said he hit black ice, slid down a hill and landed sideways across the road. Luckily, no one was hurt. Route 347 was closed in both directions while crews got the big rig out of there.

Newswatch 16 talked with a worker at the PennDOT salt shed in Dunmore around 9:30 p.m. He said trucks loaded up with salt and were out on the roads.

A PennDOT spokesperson said anyone driving should be careful of icy patches, even on roads that don't appear bad, and drivers should be especially aware of black ice.
