WILKES-BARRE -- Firefighters fought flames in below-zero temperatures Wednesday morning in Luzerne County.

Officials said a double block home in the 1400 block of North Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre caught fire just before 5:30 a.m.

Flames were seen shooting from the attic of the double-block home.

One side of the home is empty.  A woman and her granddaughter were in the other side.

Family members tell us that a woman with a dog was banging on their door and ringing the doorbell yelling that there was a fire.

Relatives are calling her a Good Samaritan, saying they have no idea who she is but they're grateful for the warning.

The woman and her granddaughter got out safely. She told us she does not have renters insurance and she's not sure how much she has lost but she will stay with family in Jim Thorpe.
