SCRANTON -- A culinary arts program will soon be offered at Lackawanna College's Scranton campus.

North Pocono High School's marching band kicked off the announcement, performing "Be Our Guest" using pots, pans, and cheese graters as instruments.

Then, the president of Lackawanna College ceremonially started the culinary arts program by cutting a ribbon made of fresh pasta.

“We're all saying, 'Why not Scranton?' This is a place where we want to be and we want to give opportunities to the local students here and also enrich the local businesses,” said Stephanie Decker, culinary arts program director.

Lackawanna College started offering culinary arts in 2011 at its Lake Region Center in Hawley.

The program director says the move will allow students to gain experience by working with restaurants and hotels in Scranton.
